Presidents MessagePresident's Message

The 2017/2018 season has been an exciting year for the Hamilton OIAA Chapter and Hamilton area.  Hamilton tends to get a bad rap, but this city has so much to offer.  In more recent times, we have seen the waterfront expand and continue to provide an environment for families, artists and outdoorsmen.  City Council plans to add housing units, as well as business and recreational areas to continue to make our waterfronts world class.  The city is expanding such that a Light Rail Transit system is being implemented for our ever expanding city that continues to diversify.  Hamilton, referred to as the “steel city”, or as we affectionately refer to it as “The Hammer”, although is the largest steel manufacturing city in all of Canada, it is evolving to include strong roots in the medical field and health care with the ever expanding Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster Hospital.  Hamilton’s downtown area has exploded with quaint restaurants with world renowned chefs to suit just about every taste and pallet.  The list of great things happening in our City could go on and on!

Hamilton OIAA kicked off the year with our annual Christmas event.  The event was well attended and we were able to make a considerable contribution to our local food banks.  Up next was our annual curling bonspiel.  Were you able to stay standing?  We are as always, honoured to assist the Hamilton Law Association in presenting the Joint Lawyers/Adjusters Seminars, which occurs every spring.  This event sees hundreds of insurance professionals and both plaintiff and defence lawyers come together for a day of development; while some of the top lawyers, judges and adjusters speak on the relevant hot topics of the time.  Our annual golf tournament, despite the yearly tumultuous weather, is always well attended and raises money for our local charities, specifically, this year for CityKidz, providing services to our local youth.  We continue to look for ways to involve our members in fun yet educational events that allow us to continue networking within our industry.  The Hamilton Executive thanks everyone for their continued support and we look forward to seeing everyone at our ongoing events!
